MONTREAL — A new Renaissance hotel that aims to offer unique style and entertainment in the heart of Montreal is slated to open downtown in mid-January.

“This major investment will bring life back to the area that was previously struggling with a form of development lethargy due to several hotel closings, leaving a negative net variation of 1,300 rooms since 2013 in the downtown inventory,” says Serge Primeau, VP of Operations and Development at Urgo Hotels Canada, which will manage the property. “The Renaissance’s distinctive offering and unique positioning will set us apart and allow us to seize an opportunity in a growing market that sees its occupation rates rising.”

Set to open Jan. 18 at the corner of Cathcart St. and Robert-Bourassa Blvd., the 142-room property boasts a design by Montreal’s Groupe Daca design and architecture firm. The group preserved the architecture of the building, which formerly housed Canada Post, by using art deco-styled exterior stones and aluminum mirror.

Inside, Pan-Asian cuisine will be served at East restaurant, helmed by Ladi Cheng, with cocktails by Lawrence Picard. The 12th floor will host a stainless steel plunge pool, bar, bistro kitchen and panoramic views.
