SAANICH, B.C. — The owner of the Red Lion Inn and Suites in Saanich, B.C., is reportedly facing five aggravated assault charges after hotel employees were hurt on the weekend.

“They were simply doing their jobs at the Red Lion, and they were stabbed,” said Saanich Police Sgt. Chris Horsley during a news conference.

The attacks took places at the hotel restaurant and in the hotel lobby, seemingly with no provocation from either side. The hotel was on lock down for a few hours, while the police investigated the incident.

While the victims have since been released from the hospital with no life-threatening injuries, police have charged hotel co-owner Zhi Wei “Wally” Meng, who also co-owns at least four hotels in the Victoria area.
