STAMFORD, Conn. — The new Westin Chongqing Liberation Square opened today in Chongqing’s central business district, located in southwest China. It marks Westin’s 200th property and will be followed by the opening of three more hotels in China: The Westin Zhujiajian Resort in Zhoushan, The Westin Blue Bay Resort in Qingshui Bay, Hainan and The Westin Haikou in Hainan.

Nine new Westin hotels are scheduled to open globally this year and almost 30 by the end of 2016. Nearly half of these new properties are slated for the Asia-Pacific region and include The Westin Bekal Resort & Spa in India and The Westin Ubud Resort & Spa in Indonesia.

Simon Turner, president of Global Development for Starwood, credits the demand for global brands in Asia-Pacific to increasing wealth and rapid urbanization. The two fastest-growing travel regions for Westin are China and India and nearly 70 per cent of Westin development is currently located in emerging markets.

Over the next three years, 11 new hotels are slated to open in China, five across Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, two in India, two in Indonesia and one hotel in the Philippines.
