TORONTO — In the world of hospitality, hands-on experience is as crucial as classroom learning. At Humber Institute of Technology & Advanced Learning, program co-ordinator and professor Kristy Adams is championing this approach through a partnership with Hilton Toronto Airport Hotel & Suites where students gain essential skills and pathways to successful careers.
“The unwavering support from Natasha Melanson and her dedicated team provides invaluable mentorship and real-world experience,” says Adams. As general manager, Melanson also serves on Humber’s Program Advisory Committee, shaping the curriculum to align with industry needs.
In 2023, Hilton Toronto Airport & Suites launched an internal hiring initiative aimed at nurturing talent from within. This effort is set to expand in 2024, with plans to recruit 14 interns per college module and implement comprehensive training programs.
By the end of the third quarter, the hotel had hired 27 interns, with nine offered permanent roles and five existing team members prompted — three to management positions.
This collaboration not only benefits students but also strengthens Hilton’s organization, paving the way for innovation and excellence in hospitality.
