WINNIPEG — Today marks the grand opening of the Grand Winnipeg Airport Hotel, the newest luxury accommodation to land in the city’s airport area.
The $23-million, 101-room boutique accommodation feature an e-concierge board where guests can check hotel services, airport departures and arrivals; print boarding passes; and get customizable coffee from a Starbucks auto-barista machine.
“We have a great hotel that will provide the service people have been asking us for,” Barry Rempel, CEO of the Winnipeg Airports Authority, told the Winnipeg Free Press. “If you hit that right niche you can do very well.”
Guestrooms boast LED smart TVs with Netflix, a Keurig coffee machine, an iPad and designer glass water bottles. The energy-conscious property also features a heat-recovery ventilation system as well as sensors that turn off the lights and thermostat when the room is empty. On the west side of the hotel, a curtain wall captures solar energy. Meanwhile, the on-site Blue Marble Restaurant & Lounge offers local fare as well as an indoor urban cultivator where micro greens are grown for salads and garnishes.
