Ongoing investigation into the massive Marriott/Starwood data breach has led U.S. officials to believe the incident may have been the work of hackers working with the Chinese Ministry of State Security, according to statements made to the Associated Press.
The tools, techniques and procedures used in the breach are cited as key reasons investigators suspect the incident is tied to Chinese intelligence.
To date, at least three proposed class actions have been launched in Canada against Marriott in the wake of the breach. In all, at least 40 class actions have been filed on behalf of the approximately 500-million guests impacted by the breach, reports Bloomberg Law.
