COLUMBUS, Ohio — Red Roof is expanding its presence into the Canadian market, with its first property in Calgary.

The company has partnered with FANS International Hospitality Group, an international hotel-management company, to grow the brand — beginning with the conversion of a former Travelodge-hotel property at Calgary Airport to a Red Roof Plus+ & Suites. This is the first of multiple properties that Red Roof plans to convert in Canada over the next five years.

“FANS International Hospitality Group is one of the most respected hospitality companies in Canada and partnering with them is the right decision for us,” says Andrew Alexander, president Red Roof. “FANS and Red Roof share the same core values, business strategy and vision.”

A substantial investment will be made to renovate and upgrade the property’s 150 rooms and suites to Red Roof standards ahead of the property’s opening, which is slated for late spring 2019. The property will not only have all of the Plus+ upgrades and amenities, but will house an off-lobby restaurant, pool and airport shuttle service.

“Canada has always been an exciting frontier for Red Roof as the company continues its international growth and development,” says Phil Hugh, Chief Development Officer, Red Roof. “Working with FANS International Hospitality Group, an established local partner, Red Roof is bringing our successful upscale-economy model to this receptive market, offering guests what we know they want — a true value proposition.”

“Red Roof is a trusted, recognizable brand that travellers love,” notes Alnoor Nanji, president of FANS International Hospitality Group and current Chairman of Jubilee Hospitality Association of Canada. “Red Roof is the perfect brand to bring to the Canadian market with high brand awareness and a customer base who is familiar with the attributes and benefits of an enhanced affordable lodging experience.”
