ATLANTA — A new energy-saving Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites has opened in Spruce Grove, Alta.

The $18-million, 79,500-sq.-ft. development features 130 guestrooms and suites as well as an indoor swimming pool, fitness centre and 3,000 sq. ft. of meeting space. “Holiday Inn Express hotels are designed to be the smart choice for value-conscious business and leisure travellers,” said Heather Balsley, SVP, Americas Core Brands & Brand Operations for InterContinental Hotels Group, whose brand family includes Holiday Inn Express. “With more than 2,200 properties worldwide and nearly 500 more in the pipeline, the Holiday Inn Express portfolio continues to provide our guests with an enhanced-stay experience at a great value. We are proud to welcome this hotel into the Holiday Inn Portfolio of Brands with the brand-new sign and everything it represents.”

As part of IHG’s Green Engage sustainability initiative, which seeks to reduce its carbon footprint per occupied room by 12 per cent, property features include LED lights and a Molok garbage disposal system — a semi-underground waste container that uses gravity to compact waste and uses cooler temperatures underground to slow bacterial development, reducing odours and pests.
