MISSISSAUGA, Ont. — An eco-friendly mandate has earned SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts’ TownePlace Suites by Marriott Mississauga in Ontario four Green Keys by the Green Key Eco-Rating Program, which commends excellence in environmental practices.

“We are very proud to be receiving the four Green Keys certification,” said Dan McIlhone, GM of TownePlace Suites by Marriott Mississauga – Airport Corporate Centre. “Minimizing the hotel’s impact on the environment is a common goal for our management team and hotel staff.”

The Green Key rating was based on a number of the hotel’s environmental initiatives, including, a waste-reduction plan, a conservation plan in the housekeeping department, the use of eco-friendly products, controlled water and energy consumption and a “Hotel Green Team,” which implements and communicates environmental programs and initiatives.

The 173-room extended-stay hotel, which opened last summer, continues SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts’ commitment to the environment. The hotel management company is the first of its kind in Canada to have all its properties certified under the Green Key Eco-Rating Program.
