DALLAS — February marked a record for year-to-year increases in North American hotel room rates, according to Dallas-based Pegasus Solutions Inc., a technology and services provider to hotels and travel distributors in 12 countries.

“By the numbers, February was a good month worldwide,” said Mike Kistner, CEO of Pegasus. “No doubt, business and consumer reservation volumes were bolstered by the extra day of bookings, but it wasn’t the leap year that drove rates up — demand did.”

Corporate traveller rates increased to a new high of 7.1 per cent in February, year over year, increasing to 7.3 per cent for leisure travellers, almost a full percentage point more than June 2011’s previous high of 6.4 per cent.
