BETHESDA, Md. — Marriott International is set to lay off more than 600 employees at its headquarters in Bethesda, Md.

The company confirmed to USA TODAY that it will lay off 673 workers starting October 23.

In May, Marriott indicated it anticipated a significant number of above-property positions would be eliminated later in the year. At the time, the company also informed above-property employees in the U.S. that furloughs and reduced work-week schedules, which began in April, would be extended through October 2. It also introduced a voluntary transition program for on-property and above-property U.S. employees who wished to leave the company to pursue other opportunities.
