MONTREAL – Germain Hotels announced the temporary closure of five of its Canadian properties yesterday due to the COVID-19 virus.

In a release, the company said it will temporarily suspend activities at the Alt Montreal, Alt Quartier DIX30, Alt Ottawa, Alt Calgary East Village Hotels and Le Germain Hotel Toronto Mercer.

“We are all experiencing it: the COVID-19 pandemic is shaking up the daily lives of all of us,” the statement from Christiane and Jean-Yves Germain, co-founders/co-presidents Germain Hotels read. “All spheres of our society are affected and the tourism industry is the first to be impacted. Under the circumstances, we see a considerable decrease in the occupancy rate in our hotels. In this respect, we must make difficult decisions daily based on your health, that of our employees and for the sustainability of our business.”

The five hotels were selected as the company has more than one property in these cities and “we strongly wish to maintain our activities in all our Canadian destinations.”

Guests with reservations between March 18 and April 19 in one of those hotels will be personally informed and relocated to sister properties situated nearby.

“Under the current circumstances, we must make difficult decisions daily based on the well-being of our guests, the community and for the sustainability of our business.”
