PORTSMOUTH, N.H. — According to Lodging Econometrics (LE), the total construction pipeline in Canada currently boasts 244 projects totalling 32,170 rooms, up 17 per cent year-over-year (YOY) by number of projects.

The current construction pipeline includes 87 projects (11,286 rooms) under construction and 91 projects (10,536 rooms) scheduled to start construction in the next 12 months — up 19 per cent and 15 per cent YOY. Projects in the early-planning stages account for 66 projects (10,348 rooms), which represents an 18-per-cent increase over the previous year.

The top hotel companies in Canada’s construction pipeline by number of projects are Marriott (54 projects/7,764 rooms), InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) (43 projects/4,436 rooms,) and Hilton (37 projects/4,218 rooms).

Toronto, Calgary and Edmonton lead the country with the most hotel projects in the pipeline, with 36 projects in Toronto, 14 in Calgary and 12 in Edmonton.
