TORONTO — American Express Canada has announced changes to its Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Card and Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card, set to roll out this August.

The update follows Marriott International’s recently announced plans to unify benefits under the Marriott Rewards, The Ritz-Carlton Rewards and Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) programs. The cards will offer business and leisure travellers updated benefits and ways to earn points across Marriott International’s 6,500 properties and 29 brands around the world.

“American Express has been a valued SPG partner for many years and we’re thrilled to extend this partnership in a way that provides the greatest opportunities for our members,” says Don Cleary, president, Marriott Hotels of Canada.

Starting August 2018, the American Express Starwood Preferred Guest Credit Cards and Business Credit Cards will feature an updated earn rate, an annual free-night award with no spend requirement, automatic complimentary upgrade to Silver Elite Status and a free supplementary card.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Marriott and their newly unified program, which provides our card members access to the largest breadth of property options and benefits offered by any hotel loyalty program in Canada,” says Aileen Kheraj, VP of Lending Products and Partnerships at American Express.
