Postmark Hotel Grand Opening

NEWMARKET, Ont. — The historic downtown district of Newmarket, Ont. welcomed a new chapter of growth and community connection with last week’s grand opening of the Postmark Hotel. The new property is the latest addition to Archive Hospitality Group’s boutique hotel portfolio, which includes Toronto’s Gladstone House and The Broadview Hotel. As the president of Archive Hospitality, Daniel Bernstein, shared during the opening, “Our vision for the Postmark has been to create a space that combines modern comfort with the charm of the building’s historical roots, and to create a place that is a hub of the Newmarket community.”

Nestled in the heart of Newmarket, Ont., the Postmark Hotel stands as a symbol of modern comfort interwoven with the charm of historical architecture. The hotel has breathed new life into a once bustling post office, transforming it into a hub for both locals and visitors. “They took over a landmark right here in downtown Newmarket and they’ve renovated and made it into the most amazing iconic location in Newmarket that we’ve ever had,” said Dawn Gallagher Murphy, Member of Provincial Parliament for Newmarket-Aurora at the event.

The Postmark Hotel’s transformation is a testament to the collaborative spirit between the public and private sectors. The involvement of local stakeholders and the town’s leadership played a crucial role in bringing this project to life. Gallagher Murphy also expressed gratitude toward the community, saying, “Thank you to the town of Newmarket, to Mayor Taylor, to the economic development group, to town council for having the wisdom and the will to bring this type of location and revitalize our downtown.”

More than just a hotel, the Postmark aims to serve as a gathering place for the community, offering locally sourced amenities and showcasing art from local artists. This commitment to fostering community connection was underscored by Robb Dalgleish, associate director at DREAM, co-owner of the hotel. “Newmarket has such a vibrant culture and we are committed to engaging with the community to keep this culture strong.”

The Postmark Hotel, originally built as a post office in 1914, has been masterfully restored into a colourful boutique hotel offering locals and travellers a charming space to dine, stay, and celebrate. The hotel’s lobby, with high ceilings, a cozy fireplace, and collection of original artworks adorning its walls, provides the perfect ambiance for guests to relax and unwind.

Spanning three floors, The Postmark hotel offers 55 uniquely designed guestrooms in a variety of sizes and styles, catered to every traveller’s needs. From cozy spaces to suites with soaring ceilings, walkout terraces, living rooms, and kitchenettes, each guestroom has its own distinct personality and charm. The carefully curated Canadian artworks in each room add a warm and inviting atmosphere, enhanced by luxurious French bedding, modern decor, and high-speed Internet. Guests can also indulge in locally crafted organic toiletries by Consonant Skin+Care and other carefully curated amenities, promising a luxurious and comfortable stay, whether brief or extended.

The property also features four versatile event spaces designed to accommodate any occasion. The private dining room is the perfect setting for a smaller luncheon or gathering, while the larger dedicated event space offers floor-to-ceiling skyline views, a wraparound terrace, and delicious catering with an exciting cocktail program. Ideal for celebrations of 20 to 200 guests, these adaptable spaces offer an excellent backdrop for weddings, family reunions, holiday parties, birthdays, or gatherings with friends.

Within the walls of the hotel are two highly anticipated restaurants, helmed by executive chef Jon Turner. With a focus on farm to table, the new Canadian inspired menus use locally sourced, seasonal ingredients to create an authentic dining experience. On the main floor, The Lobby operates as both a café and bar, providing a range of options from breakfast through dinner. The menu features re-imagined classics and standout dishes such as Yellowfin Tuna Crudo, Fogo Island Shrimp Rolls, and their unique take on the Smashburger. The striking rooftop restaurant, Overlea offers brunch and dinner with unparalleled city views. Its menu includes distinctive dishes such as Seared Venison Carpaccio with black walnut, sorrel, smoked salt, and urfa peppers, as well as Ontario Sweet Corn and Ricotta Stuffed Cappelletti. Brunch offerings include Sour Cherry Pancakes and Montreal Smoked Meat Benedict. Each restaurant provides a unique experience and can be booked for private events.

“The Postmark Hotel has always been something special, ever since its inception as a post office in 1914,” said Avi Wulfand, general manager of The Postmark Hotel. “We are thrilled to bring to life this community hub in the heart of Newmarket.”
