VICTORIA — A number of Victoria hotel operators are finishing major renovations in time for the summer tourist season, according to Time Colonist.

The Delta Ocean Pointe Resort is undergoing a $14-million redesign of its 240 rooms, meeting facilities and exterior facades. The Fairmont Empress was the site of a $500,000 transformation where the former Kipling’s restaurant was converted into a grand ballroom. Hotel Grand Pacific’s facilities were modernized, while major structural work was done at Harbour Towers.

“The type of guest is changing. They are tech-savvy, younger and they have to have Wi-Fi,” Frank Bourree, a tourism consultant, was quoted as saying by Time Colonist. “Fifteen years ago, you didn’t have to change much, but that has changed rapidly. If you don’t have a 40-inch flatscreen TV people will just choose another hotel.”
