BROOMFIELD, Colo. — Vail Resorts announced that all of its North American resorts will remain closed for the remainder of the 2019-20 winter ski season — extending the previously announced closure from March 15 to 22 to allow the company to assess the evolving situation related to COVID-19.

The company has indicated it will consider reopening Breckenridge Ski Resort in Colorado, Heavenly Mountain Resort in Lake Tahoe and Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia in late April/early May, dependent on weather conditions and the situation with COVID-19.

Additionally, the company’s owned and operated lodging properties will close on March 20, with final check-ins cut off at 4 p.m. MT on March 17.

“Our decision to end the season now is evidence of the fast-moving situation involving COVID-19 and it was not an easy one to make as we deeply considered the extended impact it will have on our guests, employees and communities,” says Rob Katz, chairman and CEO of Vail Resorts. “While it is incredibly disappointing for our company to mark the end of the season so early, we know it is the most responsible path forward.”

An online form has been made available on Vail Resorts’ resort websites for guests to process refunds and credits.

Vail Resorts operates 37 resorts across 15 U.S. states and three countries, including Whistler Blackcomb in Whistler, B.C.
