ALMA, Que. — Notre Hôtel and l’Hôtel Universel Alma have been granted repayable contributions in the amounts of $324,550 and $605,000, respectively, to modernize the properties. The funding, granted under Canada Economic Development for Quebec Regions’ (CED) Quebec Economic Development Program, was used to carry out major works in the two properties’ rooms and common areas.

“Lac-Saint-Jean offers many attractions and activities to please the most demanding tourists, enthusiasts of wilderness, gastronomy and culture. It is one of the major drivers of our economy,” says Richard Hébert, Member of Parliament for Lac-Saint-Jean. “I am therefore very pleased to announce the Government of Canada’s support for two major hotels in the region. By supporting tourism businesses, the Government enables Quebec to expand its offer of tourism destinations both on domestic and foreign markets. This is concrete action for promoting Quebec’s tourism regions.”

The 30-room Notre Hôtel in downtown Alma has renovated all rooms, while the Hôtel Universel Alma, the only four-star establishment in the Lac-Saint-Jean-Est RCM, now boasts 71 renovated rooms, a pool and spa, a complete range of services at its health centre and a bar lounge.

“By investing in the improvement of Notre Hôtel and l’Hôtel Universel Alma facilities, the Government of Canada stands by its commitments,” says The Honourable Navdeep Bains, Minister responsible for CED. “We help businesses expand, innovate and boost tourism. This results in the creation of high-quality jobs, vitalizes the regions and ensures a prosperous Canadian economy.”
