MONTREAL — According to Tourisme Montréal’s projections, in 2018 the city of Montreal will receive 11.6 million visitors — a four-per-cent annual increase — and approximately $4.3 billion in tourist spending. This growth will be primarily attributable to the overseas market, which is expected to grow by 6.1 per cent.

Increased interest in the city is expected to be sustained following Montreal’s 375th anniversary celebrations thanks to new direct flights, tourism sector development, buzz surrounding the destination and investments in various marketing campaigns.

“Our destination is very popular internationally thanks to the great work across the entire Montreal scene,” says Yves Lalumière, president and CEO of Tourisme Montréal. “[The past year] was important for boosting the city’s reputation. We will continue to be proactive with promoters of new tourism offers in 2018.”
