TORONTO — Tony Fernandes has been named Central Region Chef of the Year for 2015 by the Canadian Culinary Federation of Chefs and Cooks and the Escoffier Society of Toronto.

The group executive chef and food and beverage director for Crowne Plaza Toronto Airport, Four Points by Sheraton Toronto Airport and Hilton Garden Inn Toronto Mississauga, was one of the three Canadian chefs chosen from Eastern, Central and Western Canada. “It is truly an honour to be recognized by such a prominent association for something I am so passionate about,” said Fernandes. “A career in the culinary industry is not just about food but also about community, and Canada has a wonderful culinary community.”

All regional winners embody superior overall professionalism and excellence, dedication to and leadership within the culinary industry. They also contribute to the success of their regional associations and participate in charity work that showcases their culinary talent. The Eastern Canada and Western Canada candidates will be announced in the coming weeks.

The CCFCC will honour the chefs at its National Convention being held from May 26 to 30 in St. John’s, N.L. Branch presidents will vote to select the National Chef of the Year.
