ST. ANDREWS BY-THE-SEA, N.B. — As 2013 gets underway, New Castle Hotels and Resorts welcomes a new face to its executive management team.

Tim Ostrem has been appointed GM of the Algonquin Resort, the landmark property in St. Andrews by-the-sea, N.B. “Of all the hotels in Canada, there is none more recognizable than the Algonquin,” said Ostrem upon accepting his new role. “This is a once-in-a-career opportunity to have a positive impact on a national treasure. The Algonquin is part of our heritage and an important economic driver for the entire region surrounding Passamaquoddy Bay. I can’t wait to reopen, welcome back old friends and introduce first-time visitors to a new and improved Algonquin.” Ostrem’s extensive career includes leading teams at Fairmont, Westin, Delta and the Cambridge Suites Hotel in Toronto.

Gerry Chase, president and COO of New Castle Hotels and Resorts, congratulated Ostrem. “[He’s] an immensely qualified Canadian hotelier with years of experience repositioning hotels of this calibre,” said Chase. “I’m confident he’ll be the kind of dynamic leader the Algonquin needs as it enters the next chapter in its storied history.”

New Castle, along with Halifax-based Southwest Properties, purchased the historic hotel from the provincial government in 2012, and it’s undergoing a $20-million renovation. The property will be launched in the second quarter as part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection.
