CALGARY — Stone chunks descended from the Fairmont Palliser Hotel in downtown Calgary Monday afternoon, causing sidewalk closures and a fire department investigation, reports Global News.

Two fist-sized chunks of what Fairmont spokesperson David Woodward said were sandstone prompted the Calgary Fire Department to close the sidewalks surrounding the hotel.

A tweet from the Fairmont Palliser Hotel read: “Thank you @cityofcalgary #Firefighters for ensuring public safety today during an investigation into our hotel sandstone on a hot day #yyc.” [globalnews.ca]
