Portsmouth, N.H. — Canadian hotel construction is showing an upward trend this year, with 214 projects and 28,299 rooms, up seven per cent year-over-year, according to Lodging Econometrics.

In Canada, Marriott International has 46 projects underway, with 6,997 rooms, Hilton Worldwide follows with 29 projects totalling 3,649 rooms, while InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) has 28 projects with 3,149 rooms. The largest brands in the pipeline for each of these companies are Courtyard by Marriott (12 projects with 1,733 rooms), Hampton Inn (eight projects with 825 rooms) and Holiday Inn Express (18 projects with 1,935 rooms).

Cities in Canada with the largest hotel construction pipelines are Toronto with 37 projects comprising 4,960 rooms, Calgary with 18 projects with 2,808 rooms and Montreal with 12 projects with 1,652 rooms.
