STOCKHOLM — Pangea Pod Hotel has installed ASSA ABLOY Global Solution’s Essence door locks at its recently opened location in Whistler, B.C.

The hotel will now to allow guests to check themselves into their rooms through a self-service kiosk in the main lobby. Once guests have checked in, they will receive personalized, radio-frequency identification (RFID) wristband watches, which will act as their room key when placed in proximity to the RFID reader in their room’s door.

In addition to acting as a room key, the wristbands can be used to pay for on-site purchases such as drinks or food from the Hotel’s café and bar.

“As Canada’s first capsule-based concept, Pangea is all about demonstrating comfort, convenience, high-end design, but also affordability and security can all exist together within a single location and Essence door locks play a vital role in allowing us to achieve this,” says Russell Kling, co-founder of the Pangea Pod Hotel. “Using the Essence door lock simply made the most sense for us. Not only do its features reflect our goal of giving our guests more control over their stay (not to mention keeping them safe), but its ability to evolve as needs change helps to realize our ambitions of continuing to serve as a cutting-edge establishment into the long-term future.”

If needed, the Essence locks can be upgraded to Mobile-Access ready, which will allow guests to use their personal smart devices as their hotel room keys. Their digital room key and room-number information will be safeguarded using advanced encryption technology and transmitted through a secure communications channel to guests’ devices.
