MONTREAL — International tourism numbers are on the rise for Montreal. Tourisme Montreal’s latest statistics show a strong summer for the city, with international tourism increasing five per cent from its 2018 totals.
The city attracted 20-per-cent more visitors from Mexico, 14-per-cent more from Germany and 10-per-cent more from France.
This influx in tourism is supported by 90 direct flights connecting Montreal to various international destinations. Overall, the city projects a 2.1-per-cent increase in tourism for the year.
Montreal-Trudeau Airport welcomed nearly four-million international passengers this summer, which is 5.5-per-cent more than last summer. This brings the total number of passengers up to 9.1 million since the beginning of 2019 — a 6.8-per-cent increase over the same period last year.
According to the Hotel Association of Greater Montreal, hotels on Montreal Island had an average occupancy rate of 85.3 per cent and an Average Daily Rate of $215.31.
“This spike in international visitors is very encouraging and proves our strategies are working,” says Yves Lalumière, president and CEO of Tourisme Montreal. “We plan to step up promotional efforts abroad while continuing to invest in projects that make Montreal a more appealing city for tourists and locals alike.”
