OTTAWA — The Minto Group has announced it’s “narrowing” its hospitality focus by pulling out of the hotel game, transforming its Ottawa-based Minto Suite Hotel into a furnished- and unfurnished rental property.

“Our business has evolved beyond its roots, with Minto expanding its footprint nationally,” said Michael Waters, CEO of the Ottawa-based Minto Group. “This requires us to focus on what we do best and that means making some tough decisions to get out of specific lines of business — ones we are very proud of — but which no longer support our overall business objectives.”

Beginning April, the 25-year-old property, which contains 255 hotel suites and 163 furnished suites, will be converted to rental units, with the opening scheduled for summer. The company plans to keep more than half of its 97 employees, who will be reassigned to other roles within the organization; others will be offered financial support and access to a job search program.
