TORONTO — Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID), set to take place April 14, will look much different this year than it has in the past. The event was created to be an international forum for advocacy, awareness and celebration for the meetings-and-events industry and typically draws professionals from around the world.

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, “GMID Goes Virtual” will take the forum’s place this year. On April 14, at 12 p.m. ET, GMID Goes Virtual will attempt to bring together more than 15,000 industry peers from all over the world for a 30-minute, interactive virtual event to break the Guinness World Record for Largest Audience for a Virtual Conference.

“GMID Goes Virtual is the online-alternative event that all meetings professionals should attend and support to show the world that event professionals are still connecting, collaborating and advocating for the importance of the global meetings and live events industry,” explains Anh Nguyen, principal and founder of Spark Event Management.

The online gathering will be hosted by Meetings Mean Business, Meetings Mean Business Canada and Meetings Mean Business India. It’s also supported by a number of industry organizations from around the world.

The event will be a free, interactive session designed to provide attendees with a forum to have their voices heard while contributing to valuable industry research. Following the record-breaking attempt, additional education will be provided by Meetings Mean Business Canada.
