MACAU — Karl Lagerfeld, German fashion icon and Chanel designer, is lending his talent to the hospitality industry, by teaming with a Macau-based casino operator to open his first hotel.

Set to open in 2017, the 270-room Karl Lagerfeld Hotel will be part of the new Lisboa Palace, developed by Sociedade de Jogos de Macau (SJM). It is the first hotel property for the Chanel designer. “I am very happy and proud to work on such a great project: an entire hotel designed by me. It’s the first time for me. I think the idea is great,” said Lagerfeld.

“We are excited to collaborate with Karl Lagerfeld, a multi-talented and visionary designer, to introduce the first Karl Lagerfeld Hotel. Together with Palazzo Versace Macau and our own Lisboa brand, our destination resort will become a hub of luxurious accommodation. This partnership further demonstrates Sino-western cultural interchange, which has a long tradition in Macau,” said Dr. Ambrose So, chairman of the Board of Directors of SJM.

The Lisboa Palace will comprise The Lisboa Palace Hotel, Palazzo Versace Macau and the Karl Lagerfeld Hotel as well as Michelin-starred restaurants, retail stores, a wedding pavilion and, more than 700 gambling tables.
