LONDON, Ont. — The Tourism Industry Association of Ontario (TIAO) recently awarded top tourism leaders, businesses and events at the 2012 Ontario Tourism Summit in London, Ont.

The Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Josef Ebner for his dedication to the development and promotion of Ontario’s hospitality industry for the past 45 years. “The McGuinty government thanks Josef Ebner for his deep commitment to Ontario’s hospitality and tourism industries and congratulates him on his impressive record of success,” said Michael Chan, Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport, upon presenting the award.

Ebner has served as a Canadian ambassador, promoting Toronto as a world-class destination and sits on many Boards and councils, including the Business Dean’s Advisory Committee for Ryerson University.

Awards were also presented to David MacLachlan, chair of the Regional Tourism Organization 13 (RTO 13), for Volunteer of the Year; EdgeWalk at the CN Tower for Tourism Innovator of the Year; Great Wolf Lodge for Employee Attraction and Retention and Savour Stratford Perth County Culinary Festival for Tourism Event of the Year. Algonquin Eco-Lodge won Sustainable Tourism Award in the Small Business category and the Metro Toronto Convention Centre was awarded the Sustainable Tourism Award in the Large Business category.
