ATLANTA — IHG has announced the appointment of Douglas Martell as vice-president of Operations for the company’s South West Asia region.

“Having worked in some of the most promising and fast-paced growth markets in the world, Douglas brings invaluable experience. I have no doubt Douglas is the right person to help fuel our business in this region, and we’re delighted he has made this move to our Delhi office,” said Pascal Gauvin, COO, India, Middle East and Africa region.

Douglas joined IHG in 2001 and has since held various operational roles across Australia, Japan and Greater China. Most recently, he held the role of vice-president, Food and Beverage and Operations, for the company’s Greater China region, based in Shanghai.

In his new role, Martell will direct operations across India, Bangladesh and Nepal where there are 13 hotels across 10 cities. He will also grow IHG’s portfolio of brands, including InterContinental Hotels & Resorts, Crowne Plaza Hotels & Resorts and Holiday Inn, as well as Holiday Inn Express, which will be making its debut in India later this year. The company plans to have 150 hotels across India by 2020.

Martell replaces Chris Moloney, who retired after three decades with the company.
