VALENCIA, Calif. — PDC Solutions, a developer of high-tech wristbands and lanyards, has partnered with IHG’s Even Hotels brand to introduce wristbands for keyless room entry and cashless purchasing.
The radio-frequency identification (RFID) Smart Bands are expected to improve the guest experience and boost revenue. Upon check-in, hotel guests who receive an RFID room-key card can buy a $8 waterproof Smart Band with a chip that stores and verifies guest data.
The bands serve as a “wrist wallet,” enabling guests to make cashless purchases via a quick scan. The instant transactions “take about half the time compared to using credit cards or cash,” said Robin Barber, VP of Leisure & Entertainment for PDC, based in Valencia, Calif. In addition to the efficiency benefits, the system increases the potential for impulse purchases, which can boost spending.
The Smart Band is available in many colours and materials and can be customized with a company logo, slogan and contact information to boost brand awareness and promote special events.
