HALIFAX — Hilton has started the redevelopment of two new hotels in downtown Halifax that will replace the former Citadel Halifax Hotel.

“By building the Hampton Inn & Suites and Homewood Suites side by side, we will better accommodate a range of lodging needs for both the business and leisure travellers visiting Halifax,” said Steve Giblin, president and CEO of SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts.

Located in downtown Halifax, the $62-million redevelopment will have 316 units and will include a shared conference centre, a fitness centre, retail space and parking.

The two hotels will be built in partnership with Hampton Hotels and SilverBirch Hotels & Resorts. The Homewood Suites/Hampton Inn & Suites Downtown Halifax hotel represents the seventh Homewood Suites property in development in Canada, while Hampton Hotels has 19 projects under development in the Canada market.

Both hotels are expected to be finished by spring 2014.
