MCLEAN, Va. — Hilton Worldwide broke ground on its first Tru by Hilton property on Tuesday.

The celebration took place in McDonough, Ga., less than eight weeks after Tru’s public debut. Rather than the traditional hard hat and shovel affair, the team showcased 3D chalk paintings of the hotel’s exterior and guestroom design.

“Tru is a disruptive brand, as evidenced by its statement-making entrance to the mid-scale category and now the Atlanta market,” says Alexandra Jaritz, global head for Tru by Hilton. “We know the brand will have broad appeal to Atlanta-area travellers who span generations but share a similar youthful mindset. At its core, Tru is value-engineered to provide guests with a contemporary, consistent and fresh experience in an affordable way, while at the same time being operationally efficient to our owners.”

This 98-room, four-storey property is set to be the first of many. Hilton Worldwide announced that it has 189 Tru hotel deals in the pipeline to date, up from 130 hotels when the brand launched in January.

Tru by Hilton McDonough is expected to open in summer of 2017.
