HALIFAX — The $27-million Alt hotel under construction at Halifax Stanfield International Airport is slated to open in April, according to The Chronicle Herald.

Christiane and Jean-Yves Germain, co-presidents of Le Groupe Germain, the company that owns the Alt hotel brand, were in Halifax Thursday to showcase features of the new property. “We want to give people a taste of what our new Alt brand is,” Christiane Germain is quoted by the Herald as saying.

Le Groupe Germain, which also operates the higher-end brand, Le Germain, opened the first Alt hotel in Montreal in 2007. Five more have since been built, the most recent at Toronto Pearson International Airport in 2012.

The 14-storey, 169-room hotel will be environmentally friendly and feature dual-flush toilets, geothermal heating and cooling as well as card readers that turn off the lights when guests leave the room.
