OTTAWA — The Hotel Association of Canada (HAC), the Ottawa Gatineau Hotel Association (OGHA) and the Association Hôtellerie Québec (AHQ) have launched an election campaign and website (votefairrules.ca) calling on federal parties and candidates to modernize Canada’s tax laws and regulations for digital platforms such as Airbnb.

“Commercial short-term rental operators who use digital platforms like Airbnb continue to grow, while our laws remain outdated,” says Alana Baker, director of Government Relations, HAC. “We are seeking support from candidates across the country during this federal election to ensure these digital businesses contribute their fair share to the Canadian economy.”

The Vote Fair Rules campaign is the latest step in HAC’s efforts to create a level playing field between traditional accommodations and home-sharing platforms.
