MONTREAL — Joining properties throughout central and eastern Canada, Groupe Germain’s Alt Hotel brand will open a new location in St. John’s in 2017.
“The announcement of the St. John’s opening brings our company one step closer to our goal of offering 20 properties to visitors across the country by 2020,” says Jean-Yves Germain, co-president of Groupe Germain Hotels.
The four-storey hotel, designed by Lemaymichaud Architecture Design, will be located at the corner of Water and Prescott Streets and feature 148 rooms, 4,000-sq.-ft. of meeting and convention space, a 2,500-sq.-ft. restaurant and patio, fitness centre and parking. “Like all Alt Hotels, our St. John’s location will feature the modern yet unpretentious design and high-quality comfort our guests appreciate, all at an accessible price. In this particular location we’re also adding some custom features that will pay homage to the site’s important cultural history,” adds Christiane Germain, co-president of Groupe Germain Hotels.
The property will be built at the site of the 1800s Marshall Brothers store cellar. Architectural planning ensures that the original footprint will be incorporated into the Alt St. John’s design and a feature wall in the hotel lobby will be home to a montage of materials excavated from the cellar as well as other historical photographs.
