TORONTO — A recent Travel Intentions Survey, conducted by the Hotel Association of Canada, has found travellers are increasingly taking specific ‘green’ factors into consideration when making travel plans.

The 2013 survey shows that 44 per cent of travellers find it important that a hotel has recycling programs and conservation efforts (water, energy) compared to 39 per cent in 2009. More than a third of leisure (30 per cent in 2010 to 36 per cent in 2013) and business (34 per cent in 2010 and 36 per cent in 2013) travellers have stated the importance of providing eco-friendly bathroom amenities, and 49 per cent of travellers are willing to pay to participate in a hotel’s carbon offset program this year, compared with 48 per cent in 2009.
