TORONTO — After an extensive search, Rudi Fischbacher will be joining George Brown College (GBC) as the Dean, Centre for Hospitality & Culinary Arts starting on July 5, 2022.

Fischbacher joins GBC from Humber College, Toronto, where he worked for more than 19 years in various roles, his latest being the associate dean for the Culinary, Hospitality and Tourism programs. Fischbacher managed nine programs in the culinary, hospitality and tourism cluster.

He started his culinary journey in Austria and worked throughout Europe in various culinary roles. His first position in Canada was at the Fairmont Royal York Hotel, followed by the role of Food-and-Beverage director and executive chef at Stage West all-suite hotel prior to starting his role as faculty program coordinator at Humber College in 2003.

During his tenure at Humber, Fischbacher has led more than 20 different programs, ranging from trade certificates, diplomas, advanced diploma, baccalaureate degrees to post-graduate certificates. One of his biggest accomplishments was leading the design, construction and opening of the four new baking and culinary labs in 2016. A complex project involving multiple stakeholders to deliver academic and pedagogical programming to the students. He also developed strong industry and community partnerships to create programs that supports disadvantaged youth at risk, to help supply nutritious meals across fourteen local shelters.
