TORONTO — Canadian hotel guests expect free Wi-Fi and coffee, according to a survey by Hotels.com of must-have amenities.

“With an increase in airlines and airports offering free Wi-Fi, tech-savvy travellers expect the experience to continue upon arrival at their hotel,” said Taylor Cole, director, Public Relations and Social Media, North America at Hotels.com. “They are using their tablets, smartphones and laptops to plan activities, stay connected to family and even order a delivery meal straight to their hotel room, so it’s no surprise they require free and fast Wi-Fi.”

Complimentary Wi-Fi trumps free parking and breakfast when it comes to choosing a hotel for both leisure and business travel, which shows access to the web is a necessity for modern-day travellers as more than one-third stay connected while on vacation.

The guest wish list also includes: complimentary bottled water (43 per cent), free breakfast (31 per cent), and high-end fitness centres or spas at luxury hotels (26 per cent), among a list of other offerings.
