SAINT-JEAN-SUR-RICHELIEU, Que. — Formica Canada has released its SurfaceSet 2020 collection, which features new woodgrains, solids and patterned formica-laminate designs inspired by “blurred lines.”

“Our team of experts spoke to hundreds of architects and designers to identify trend drivers that blurred the overlap between natural, human and technological dimensions,” says Renee Hytry Derrington, global design lead for Formica Group. “We created the SurfaceSet 2020 collection to help professionals embrace these new trends with design-forward solutions that are functional and carry the warmth of the natural world, from a boutique hotel in Montreal to a senior-living facility in Calgary.”

The 2020 SurfaceSet Collection is grouped into three key palettes — No Boundaries, Engineered Design and Fluidity — with on-trend, usable design solutions created within each one.

The No Boundaries palette features a combination of raw elements and natural warmth, including Natural Recycled Kraft, Black Recycled Kraft, Layered White Sand, Layered Sand, Layered Black Sand, Blond Cedar, Raw Cedar, Noir Cedar, Planked Raw Oak, Planked Coffee Oak, Earthenware and Algae.

The Engineered Design palette combines synthetic designs with natural materials, featuring on-screen brights, technical greys and strong saturated colours — along with tactile textures such as felt. Designs include White Washed Birchply and Black Birchply Moonstone, Night Forest, Night Shade and the Felt Series in grey, yellow, orange, green and blue.

The Fluidity Palette invokes a sensory approach to the digital world in the context of nature, with soft and ethereal tones. Designs include brushed-metal designs in aluminum and stainless; Cream Softwood, Greige Softwood, Walnut Softwood, Liquid Glass, Blush and Solar Orange.
