VANCOUVER — The Fairmont Vancouver Airport has been named the Best Airport Hotel – North America at the World Airport Awards 2011 in Copenhagen, beating out Grand Hyatt Dallas/Forth Worth and the Westin Detroit Metropolitan.

“We are honoured to accept such an esteemed award,” said Craig Reaume, general manager of the hotel, which also placed fifth on the World’s Top 10 Airport Hotels list.

“This speaks volumes about the levels of service and guest experience we provide. We offer an unrivalled location within the airport for both leisure and business travellers, along with authentically local British Columbia experiences in Globe@YVR restaurant, Jetside Bar, our meetings and amenities.”

The 392-room hotel offers soundproof rooms with floor-to-ceiling views of the airport runways, ocean and mountains. Its Quiet-Zone floor has day-use rooms for travellers on long layovers, while a hypoallergenic floor offers several low-allergen amenities. Other hotel features include Globe@YVR restaurant and Jetside Bar, a full-service day spa and health club and state-of-the-art meeting facilities with more than 8,800 square feet of space.

The annual World Airport Survey, performed by Skytrax, collected responses from more than 11-million questionnaires distributed to passengers around the world, representing more than 100 nationalities and covering more than 240 airports worldwide. Airline travellers voted for the world’s top 10 airport hotels, with more than 860,000 guests rating their hotel experiences.
