TORONTO — Expedia has released Canadian trend insights for the summer travel season. Its research reveals that Canadians are choosing domestic destinations over going abroad this summer.

Canadians expressed that the weather (26 per cent) and the outdoor activities (26 per cent) are what they love most about summer at home. And, according to Expedia data, those destinations growing in popularity are within direct proximity to the great outdoors, including, Osoyoos, Whistler, Fernie, Squamish, Parksville and Ucluelet, B.C.; Canmore, Alta; Mont-Tremblant and Saguenay, Que.; Huntsville, Ont.; St. John’s, Nfld.; and Charlottetown.

Expedia has also partnered with The Amazing Race Canada host Jon Montgomery, who recommends St. John’s, Nfld.; Quebec City; Clear Lake, Man.; Whitehorse; and Sugar Bear Cove, B.C. as top destinations to explore in Canada.

Expedia flight data also revealed that Toronto ranks as the most popular Canadian destination for travellers this summer. Following in second and third respectively are Halifax and Montreal. Other cities that topped the charts include, Vancouver, St. John’s, Calgary, Ottawa and Quebec City.
