VANCOUVER — Destination Canada’s (DC) latest Tourism Snapshot revealed continued tourism growth through October 2016. Canada welcomed 1.49 million international visitors during the month, setting a new record for October visits.

Total international overnight arrivals for the month grew 12.5 per cent. Once again, Canada saw the greatest influx of visitors from South Korea, with an increase of 31.2 per cent. Overall, performance in DC’s 10 overseas markets increased by 21 per cent for the month, with nine of the 10 markets posting double-digit growth.

October 2016 also marked the best October for U.S. arrivals since 2004, with 1,012,488 overnight visitors (up 8.8 per cent over 2015).

National hotel indicators showed modest growth for the month. Average Daily Rate (ADR) grew 1.8 per cent while RevPAR increased by 1.8 per cent. Occupancy rates were also up slightly, increasing by 0.1 percentage point.

Between January and October, Canada welcomed 17.66 million overnight visitors, reflecting an 11-per- cent increase over the same period last year.
