VANCOUVER — Coast Hotels Limited, a fully owned subsidiary of APA Hotel Canada, hosted the 22nd-annual Coast Hotels Shuhachi Naito Golf Classic in July of this year, raising more than $100,000. To date, the event has surpassed $1.3 million in funds donated to charities since its inception.
This tournament, supported by more than 30 partner sponsors, a fully sold-out field of golfers and a dinner attended by more than 175 guests, raised valuable funds for two charities this year: the ALS Society of B.C. and the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre.
“Giving back to the communities we live, work, and operate in is woven into the fabric of Coast Hotels and aligns closely with our values,” says Takamasa Machiura, president & CEO of Coast Hotels Limited. “The opportunity to support the valuable and important work of each of these organizations is a privilege.”
Hannah Marazzi, associate executive director of the Vancouver Holocaust Education Centre noted that the donation will help fund its ongoing commitment and ability to develop and deliver Holocaust-based anti-racism education programs across British Columbia.
Coast Hotels has a very personal connection to the ALS Society of British Columbia, as Shuhachi Naito, a former executive and long-time Coast Ambassador lost his battle to ALS in 2014. “It was through Shu that we came to know of the important work that the ALS Society of British Columbia is doing to support medical advances and to assist ALS patients and families with impactful programs and services”, says Mark Hope, senior vice-president Development for Coast Hotels.
“We are incredibly grateful to Coast Hotels for their generous donation raised through their annual golf classic”, says Donald Miyazaki, executive director of the ALS Society of British Columbia. “This contribution will have a profound impact on the lives of individuals and families affected by ALS across British Columbia. With the support of community partners like Coast Hotels, we can continue to provide vital services, fund critical research, and work towards a future where ALS is a treatable and manageable disease.”
Next year’s tournament will be held on July 10, 2025.
