ROCKVILLE, Md. — Choice Hotels has released its 2014 Summer Travel Survey, which taps into top travel trends in the U.S.

“The Choice Hotels 2014 Summer Travel Survey indicates that almost 90 per cent of Americans plan to take an overnight leisure trip this summer,” said Patrick Pacious, EVP and COO, Rockville, Md.-based Choice Hotels. “It’s critical that hotels stay abreast of the shifting trends in American travel, and Choice Hotels wants to ensure that important demographics like millennials are catered to during their travels.”

Key survey findings show 75.3 per cent of respondents plan to drive to their destination, and 65.5 per cent of respondents cite free high-speed Internet as a must-have.

Other survey highlights indicate that travellers’ booking decisions are influenced by loyalty programs, travellers would rather visit a new location than an old favourite, millennials are travelling with their pets, many travellers want to enjoy new cuisine and travellers are taking more trips, while taking fewer nights away from home.

The Choice Hotels 2014 Summer Travel Survey polled 1,350 U.S. adults who are planning to take one or more overnight leisure trips this summer.
