WINNIPEG — The St. Charles Hotel in Winnipeg’s exchange district has been vacant since 2008, but its owner, Ken Zaifman, who reportedly aims to convert the heritage site to a boutique hotel, is failing to do the necessary repairs to make the building safe, reports CBC News.

Heritage Winnipeg, a non-profit organization that oversees the preservation of heritage sites, told the CBC the owner was given 60 days to install a sprinkler system in the 100-year-old building in early January or risk losing the building’s title to the City of Winnipeg.

When the CBC tried to contact the building owner, he was unavailable for comment. [cbc.ca]
