TORONTO — Canadians want hotel amenities that mirror the comfort of their own home, according to a recent survey from hotels.com.

Free Wi-Fi is their number-1 preference, with 28 per cent of Canadians choosing fast and free access over free parking or even free breakfast. “Given the explosion of mobile use in the past few years, it is no surprise that travellers are requiring free and fast Wi-Fi,” said Taylor L. Cole, APR, director of public relations and social media for hotels.com. “Many guests never travel without their tablets, smartphones and laptops. It’s as intuitive as packing a toothbrush,” he added.

High-end coffee makers stole the spotlight for the number one modern in-room amenity, with 24 per cent of Canadians enjoying premium coffee in their hotel rooms. A total of 34 per cent of guests chose complimentary bottled water as the best simple amenity, and 28 per cent listed bath butlers as their least favourite amenity.
