OTTAWA — According to a release from the Hotel Association of Canada (HAC), a motion to appeal the City of Toronto’s ban on short-term rentals was denied on June 26, 2020.

Justice Corbett denied Westhaver Boutique Residences et al. the right to seek leave to appeal a recent Local Planning Appeal Tribunal ruling, which upheld the City of Toronto’s short-term-rental bylaw.

Notwithstanding the association’s current focus on COVID-19 economic relief for members, HAC is still involved in important municipal rulings regarding the regulation of short-term rentals.

The association has worked closely with its partners in the Greater Toronto Hotel Association (GTHA) and the Ontario Restaurant Hotel and Motel Association (ORHMA) to secure this win for the hotel sector.
