TORONTO — The Westin Ottawa head concierge Andrew Van Der Hoeven will be travelling to Dubai next month to compete for the prestigious Andy Pongco Award to be presented during the 63rd Les Clefs d’Or World Congress from April 10 to 15.

Van Der Hoeven became a member of the hotel concierge association in 2013 after completing a series of detailed examinations, demonstrating his impeccable knowledge of the city and national capital region. He is currently the only Les Clefs d’Or member in Ottawa.

He will be competing against 17 other hopefuls for the award, which recognizes and encourages members under the age of 36 to become active participants in the global Clefs d’Or network. Candidates must be certified Clefs d’Or members in good standing and participating in their very first international congress.

“We are all so proud of the selection of Andrew to represent Canada for this prestigious international award. While in Dubai with hundreds of other professional hotel concierges, Andrew will have the opportunity to invite people from all over the world to Ottawa and join us as we celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday celebration in 2017. Andrews’s passion for guest service is evident every day,” says Ross Meredith, GM at The Westin Ottawa.
