VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Pacific Rim’s Grant Sceney was crowned Canada’s best bartender at the Diageo World Class Canada bartending competition and will represent the country later this month at a global event.
Competing against nine other contenders, Sceney impressed judges with his knowledge, skill, speed and showmanship behind the bar. In one heat, he prepared a Three-eyed Raven cocktail made with Dalwhinnie 15-year-old single-malt scotch, bee-pollen syrup, chocolate bitters, tea-malted barley and lemongrass.
“Winning Diageo World Class Canada Bartender of the Year is an incredible honour,” said Sceney. “The level of competition and cocktail mastery from my peers is second to none. It’s inspiring to compete and learn alongside bartenders that are as passionate about their craft as I am. It’s also gratifying to be recognized by the world’s most prestigious mixology competition, but even more so to see the bartending industry develop and receive the global recognition and respect it deserves.”
Sceney will advance to the World Class Global Finals, which will be held from July 28 to Aug. 1 in Great Britain, where he will compete against bartenders from 42 other countries for a chance to win the Diageo Reserve World Class Bartender of the Year award.
More than 15,000 bartenders have been educated through Diageo Reserve World Class, a global training program and platform, whereby the Diageo Reserve World Class Bartender of the Year is announced.
